Semax is a synthetic neuropeptide based on the ACTH(4–10) fragment, developed to enhance cognitive function, support neuroprotection, improve memory, sharpen focus, and increase resistance to stress. It has been extensively studied for its potential to boost levels of BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) and influence key neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, which may contribute to better mental clarity, faster learning, and improved emotional stability. In clinical practice in Russia, Semax is used to aid neurological recovery, particularly following stroke or brain injury, and is typically administered via nasal spray to allow efficient delivery to the brain.

•Status: Approved for use in Russia but not approved by the FDA. Currently classified as FDA Category 2, with a planned reclassification to Category 1 following the Department of Health and Human Services announcement on April 15, 2026. The official change will take effect only after formal FDA rulemaking; a Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Committee (PDAC) review is scheduled for July 23–24, 2026. Evidence based on human clinical trials.
•Standard dosage: 200–600 mcg per day administered intranasally, typically divided into one to three doses. Most commonly delivered via nasal spray.
