Enfuvirtide

Enfuvirtide is a synthetic peptide antiretroviral and the first approved fusion inhibitor for HIV, developed to stop the virus from entering human immune cells. Sold under the brand name Fuzeon®, it functions by attaching to the gp41 protein on HIV, thereby blocking the virus from fusing with CD4 cells and halting replication. It is mainly prescribed for patients with prior treatment experience who are infected with drug-resistant HIV strains and is delivered through subcutaneous injection as part of a broader antiretroviral regimen.
