Abaloparatide (Tymlos, BA058)
Also known as: Tymlos, BA058
Abaloparatide is a synthetic analog of parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP). It has a higher affinity for the RG conformation of the PTH1 receptor, which promotes bone formation pathways while minimizing those involved in bone breakdown. This selective action leads to increased bone mass with a reduced risk of elevated blood calcium levels.
• A PTHrP-based analog that promotes bone formation and may offer a better safety profile compared to teriparatide, representing a newer anabolic treatment for osteoporosis.
• Status: Approved by the FDA. Evidence level: Based on FDA approval.
• Standard dosage: 80 mcg administered once daily via subcutaneous injection.
• Investigated for use in osteoporosis management, improving bone health, and lowering fracture risk.
