Description
Desmopressin (DDAVP)
Also known as: DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin
Desmopressin is a peptide that specifically targets V2 receptors in the kidneys, enhancing water reabsorption while leaving V1 receptors unaffected—thus avoiding changes in blood pressure. Additionally, it stimulates the release of von Willebrand factor and Factor VIII, supporting blood clotting.
• A man-made version of vasopressin (ADH) used to treat diabetes insipidus, nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting), and certain bleeding disorders. Unlike natural vasopressin, it does not lead to vasoconstriction.
• Approved by the FDA. The evidence supporting its use is based on regulatory approval.
• Standard dosage: Community data is sparse; refer to clinical research protocols for guidance. Administered via intranasal, oral, intravenous, or subcutaneous routes.
• Investigated for use in bedwetting, diabetes insipidus, and bleeding conditions.
